I think awareness of one's own infrastructure can prevent the emergence of self-consciousness in the first place, if the 'self' is a single, unified object. It is hard to perceive a unified self if the perception is dominated by a lot of gears and widgets. I know this sounds paradox: self-consciousness is not possible if the true nature of the self is conscious to us. Yet I am convinced if we understand this paradox, then we may come a bit closer to the problem of artificial secnslonsciou-fess.
